Dinner Meeting Wednesday 26^th November 2025

On top of all he does he has also managed the Art Show Gala event and weeknight events over a number of years.

Patrick has just returned from his third trip to East Timor where our club participates in the Timor Rotary Consortium WASH Project.

On a personal note, Patrick has been a mentor and sounding board for me in my time at the club. Patricks Rotary Resume reads as follows - Club President: 2017 / 2018 and 2021 / 2022, Assistant Governor Hobsons Bay: 2019 – 2021, Paul Harris Fellow – 2 Sapphires and a Club Service Award.

Club Forum

We also held our Club Forum which gave members the opportunity to discuss a number of matters raised by some of them such as Club Forums, Member resignations, Member recognition, Fellowship events, Weekly dinner meetings, and Dinner meeting attendance.

It was interesting to hear the views of members and also the direction they wish moving forward. The minutes of the forum have been prepared and will be discussed by the full board at the next Board Meeting given the President, President Elect and Secretary were not in attendance at the Club Forum meeting.

Paul Anderson - 50km Ultra Marathon

Last week I was in Thredbo supporting our son Paul who entered the UTMB Kosciuszko 50km Trail Run through the NSW Alps.

The race took place on Thursday, starting in Perisher at 7am. The 50km route followed hiking trails across the high plains from Perisher, down into the Thredbo River valley, all the way up the valley to Dead Horse Gap, then a climb up along the main range past the Eagles Nest top chair lift station, then all the way down again to finish in the Thredbo village.

Paul ran and hiked to finish in 9m hours and 34 minutes, a super-human effort. I was able to meet him at 3 checkpoints along the way and support him with snacks, gels, hydralytes etc.

We are so proud of our son. What an achievement.

John & Audrey Educational Scholarship

The “John and Audrey Steven Educational Scholarship” was presented last night at the Camberwell High School Awards evening. The award was presented by John Steven junior on behalf of the Rotary Club of Camberwell and the Steven Family.

Our Club was acknowledged for our continuing relationship with Camberwell High School and in particular for the impact that our Wellness Centre had achieved.

DIK - Community Service Committee Update

The Community Service Committee purchased a pallet of Lego from DIK.

It has been distributed to Vinnies, Camberwell for Christmas gifts.

We donated to a new charity, Hope in a Suitcase. It gives kids entering foster and kinship care a suitcase of new goods.

The Rotary Club, Albert Park is a sponsor, so future synergy may develop.

The Alanah and Madeline foundation also received a donation.

Following our meeting on Friday, Michael, you asked me to send out more detail about a proposed Cluster Quiz Contest being planned for Thursday 12 March next. Here ’tis.

Each club should provide a team of three members, one with over ten years experience, one with less than two years membership, and each team to have mixed genders.

Two teams will play off in each round. Each team member will have their own buzzer with light. The first to buzz in will have the chance to answer. If incorrect, the opposing team will have the chance to do so. It is proposed ten questions be asked in each round, half Rotary-based and half general knowledge. The number of rounds needed to determine the two finalists will depend on the numbers of clubs competing.

If neither team answers correctly then the question may be answered by those at one of the club tables, as nominated by an adjudicator. Apart from the winning team, the table with the most points will also win prizes.

Including their teams of three, in late February Clubs will be asked to book a table/s for dinner in support. Partners will be most welcome.

Since all the questions will be compiled confidentially, similar to the successful 1993 RI Convention Quiz here in Melbourne, it will help if clubs indicate their wish to participate asap. Please let me know directly once you have decided.

The quiz will take place no matter the club number but it will add to the atmosphere and fun on the night the more Rotarians and guests who take part.
