Christmas Function – Studley Park Grounds 12th December 23
Our last event for the year was our Christmas Party held at the Studley Park Grounds venue. We were very well supported by the Rotary Club of Canterbury (26 attendees) and my sincere thanks goes out to Tony Nguyen – President of Canterbury and Rob Simpson the Fellowship Chair for pushing the event with their members.
In total we had ninety attendees, and it was great to see members from both clubs and their partners enjoying fellowship and all the evening had to offer.
We were also supported by both the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the City of Boroondara. They were very complimentary of the event and the opportunity to reacquaint with members.
The venue, food, entertainment and certainly weather contributed to a highly successful event and my sincerest thanks go to our Fellowship Chair, Patrick Docherty and his committee for their organisation.
On a personal note, I would like to thank the members and Board of the Rotary Club of Camberwell for your enthusiastic support not only of me but also the goals that I put forward in July of this year. I look forward to the next six months with great optimism.
I would also like to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Make you take the time to enjoy the break, spend time with your families and loved ones and come back energised and refreshed in 2024.
Our first date back will be Wednesday 17th January 24, and this is likely to be a social event. Our Fellowship Chair will advise in due course.
Let’s work together, to take action to create hope in the world and in our local communities.

Members of the Camberwell and Canterbury Rotary Clubs jointly attended a celebration of the festive season at Studley Grounds on Tuesday 12 December 2023. Although we were expecting an international Music Ensemble, we were not disappointed with the opera trained, talented entertainer award winner David Gould accompanied by his trustee friend. David is home grown with accolades extending across many countries. His repertoire included songs from many well-known musicals as well as some popular songs and a sprinkle of Christmas jingles. The party atmosphere continued with members joining in with happy singing voices and waving their napkins. Signalling the end of the first half of the Rotary year, it was a great night of Christmas cheer. Our thanks to the Social Committee under the leadership of Patrick Docherty.
Greetings Fellow Consortium Members and Supporters,
It is with much pleasure and relief that we are finally able to report that the above Consortium's 2023 Global Grant Application has been lodged today with The Rotary Foundation.
Thanks to your very generous financial support of this Project, it has been possible to lodge the application with a budget of US $71,750/- (AUD $108,342/-) based on the purchase and installation of twenty (20) 5,500 litre galvanised Water Tanks and the construction by local villagers of four (4) three cubicle School Toilet Buildings.
It is a requirement of a Global Grant that a Scoping Visit must first be carried out and a Team comprising Vijay Susarla (RC Caroline Springs) and Justine Paragreen (RC Camberwell) did this most successfully in September this year. During their trip, a cooperative MOU was exchanged with a Non-Government Organisation (NGO) by the name of Timor Verde who are also involved in Clean Water and Agricultural projects in Timor Leste.
During this Trip the Team was also introduced to the Timor Leste National Government's Ministry of Power - Water and Sanitation Department in Dili and the Ministry is also keen to sign a MOU between his Government Department and the Rotary Club of Dili and us. A draft MOU has been drawn up by his Department and this is expected to be signed very shortly.
It is hoped that a positive response to our Application will be received from The Rotary Foundation early in the New Year which will enable Stage 1 of the Project to commence at the end of the present Wet Season with the expectation that the whole project will be completed prior to the end of the 2025 Dry Season.
Progress Reports will be issued from time to time, and we take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas season and New Year.
16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence 2023

The 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence is a global campaign led annually by UN Women. It runs every year from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day).
We all deserve to be safe, equal and respected. But on average, a woman in Australia is killed by a man they know every 10 days. It doesn't have to be this way.
During the 16 Days of Activism, communities around the world join the call to prevent and eliminate violence against women and girls.

Members are asked to bring donated toys or vouchers from toy selling stores (Kmart, Target, etc) to meetings until and including the 6th December. Ages range from very young to teenagers. The gifts will be passed on to St Vinnies who in turn will distribute them to families they assist who live in Boroondara based public housing.

The Red Cross is currently looking for volunteers to visit residents of The Gables in Riversdale Road, Camberwell. Your visit will not only bring them joy but also support their social connection and improve their wellbeing.
