Club Annual General Meeting (AGM)

We held our AGM and had a number of matters to discuss with members. They were:

Adoption of the previous AGM Minutes

The AGM minutes for 2022-2023 were accepted.

Club Annual Report including Financials

The Treasurers report referred to a Cash Audited report, however members had received Cash & Accrual reports. Additionally there was insufficent information to justify the nett profit numbers which were showing a loss. Therefore, a motion was put forward that acceptance of the Annual report be held over till the next meeting.

Board Positions for 2025-2026

Prior to discussing the Board positions for 2025-2026 it was very pleasing to be able to advise members present that member Michelle Critchley had re-nominated for the President Elect role for the current year 2024-2025, to take effect immediately.

The following Board Positions - President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Chair International, Chair Youth & Vocation and position of Fellowship Chair were declared vacant for which nominations had been called for. Nominations were received and members were accepted for the roles of Secretary, Treasurer, Chair International & Chair Youth & Vocation as follows:

Treasurer: George de Souza
Chair International: Chris Carra
Chair Youth & Vocation: Lyndon Joss

The positions remaining vacant are President Elect 2025-2026 and Chair Fellowship 2025-2026.

Re-development of BASScare Centre and Increase in Catering Costs

The BASScare Centre utilised by our club since its inception in 1956 and also the Rotary Club of Canterbury, advised on 16^th September that it is to undergo a significant re-development of the site in approximately twelve months time.

Therefore the Board met and discussed the matter and has decided that a new home needs to be found for our club. The member who will lead the project to find a new venue is Patrick Docherty. At the AGM we called for members to assist and the following members - Brenda Innes, Michelle Critchley, Murray Anderson, Alan Lorenzini and Teresa Molella have volunteered.

This is an extremely important matter for the club and therefore will have a high level of oversight by the Board. It is the Board’s intention to have a new venue ready to go by our first meeting on 9^th July 2025. Therefore the following timeline has been set and members will be updated on the progress.

Any suggestions that members have about appropriate venues should be directed in writing to Patrick Docherty.

Our club has agreed to an increase in meal cost from $30.00 to $35.00 and an increase in weekly cleaning cost from $30.00 to $35.00 but will not pass on any increase to members in this financial year.

Wednesday 16^th October – “Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children” (ROMAC) Update

Guest presenter Minh Nguyen (Southern Regional Chair Vic/Tas) for ROMAC will be providing our club with an update on the activities of ROMAC.

ROMAC is the acronym for Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children and it is a project of Rotary Districts of Australia and New Zealand. ROMAC provides surgical treatment for children in medical facilitates in Australia and New Zealand from developing countries in our Pacific region in the form of life restoring surgery which is not available to them in their own countries and has been in operation for 35 years.

It is assisted by many eminent Australian and New Zealand surgeons who generously donate their time for the treatment of patients. ROMAC is operated by Rotarians who volunteer their time and expertise to run this Rotary project from clubs and Districts across Rotary International Zone 8.

Minh Nguyen has been a member of the Rotary Club of Keilor East, Victoria, District 9800, since 1999 and a member of ROMAC from 2003.

Minh has a background in mechanical engineering and retired in 2022.

There’s a new local in town. Camberwell Blood Donor Centre is opening up around the corner down the street on Camberwell Road on 19 November. Book a donation at https://app.donateblood.com.au/QYD5 today.

This is an initiative heavily supported by Felicity Sinfield the former Mayor of the City of Boroondara and Honorary Member of our club and also our member Adrian Campbell.

The soft opening is on the 19th of November and official Opening is on 6th December. Our Club will be looking to promote and support the new centre.

A Reminder when Tin-Rattling at the Sunday Market

As you all know, volunteering at the Camberwell Sunday Market is an important part of our fundraising, as well as showing support to our Cluster Club the Rotary Club of Balwyn.

We have recently received communication from RC Balwyn outlining a 30% reduction in the gate takings over the last two years. Their report acknowledges that many of the reasons are outside their or our control (eg cost of living increases, cultural issues, younger age of patrons), the one thing we can influence is our engagement while greeting the Market patrons.

So in Balwyn Rotary's communication: The Market Committee requests that all volunteers be more engaging in welcoming patrons to the market and seeking a donation. We are not asking for aggression, be more engaging which encourages patrons to contribute.

Please keep this in mind during your next and subsequent Market Roster sessions.

Camp Getaway Working Bee - 28th Feb 25 – 2 Mar 25

Camp Getaway provides a quality recreational camp experience for people of all abilities. The target groups assisted at Camp Getaway are people with disabilities and special needs.

The Rotary Club of Camberwell has booked the dates above and we will again be assisted by our former member and now retired painter – Andy Spry.

Thousands of voluntary hours have gone into redeveloping the site, which now includes self-contained units with full disabled facilities, modern dormitories and many other improvements.

This working bee at Camp Getaway is a weekend away and provides a great opportunity for club fellowship. As there is always refurbishment and maintenance activities to be done this is a great hands-on Community project for our Club.
